Biography

Susan has been singing, playing guitar and composing original songs since her teens. After completing her University Degree in Economics, and a short stint working in Canberra, she returned to Melbourne to follow her first love; playing and making music.

MCA records quickly saw her potential after Susan won a major song-writing competition and signed her for a three-track EP that received national airplay and went top 30 in the Country music charts. A video was produced of the lead song, "Money Only Takes You So Far", which still receives occasional airplay on the Foxtel network and ABC-TV.

With the Success of this debut, MCA wanted Susan to produce more country songs similar to the single. However, Susan's musical influences and personal style had moved on and she parted ways with the label before an album could be recorded.

While looking for a new deal, Susan produced a self-financed and promoted, five-track EP titled " Money, Love & Destiny" that failed to get any distribution despite some good reviews and airplay.

Undaunted, Susan commenced work on her debut Album under the name The Seventh Dawn. She was now exploring her love of folk and medieval music producing ten songs that can only be described as neo-folk. The album was titled "The Age To An End Shall Come...", and was recorded with the assistance of her brother Chris McCarter and his Gothic Rock band Ikon.

Ikon already had an album released and a strong live following in Melbourne and in Germany. Susan's album soon had it's own release on Ikon's label in both Australia and Germany. The release was supported by a series of live shows in Australia with her brother, and members of Ikon, as well as solo shows in the UK and Germany.

The Seventh Dawn album received unanimously favourable reviews and is still a consistent seller particularly via numerous European on-line music stores.

Back in Australia Susan has been working on her song-writing skills with the tutorage of Skyhooks' Greg Macainish and exploring further the roots of true folk music. She has already put together a new live band, (The 7th Dawn), and started performing around Melbourne, as well as recording material for the next album.
