this song popped back into my head this week and i still absolutely love it! Reading the lyrics with fresh eyes, it's clearer to me Parker's intent: he's poking at the generalized absurdity of immature men and their behavior, saying sorry without taking responsibility for actions. Here's more via wikipedia: "Kevin Parker described the song as being "about how weak men are basically, and how we make all these excuses." The song courted controversy over its lyrics, which could be considered sexist. "It's really meant to be interpreted more like 'I'm a man' as in 'I'm a human. I'm merely a man.'" I understand how it can be perceived as sexist, almost misogynistic, but put it this way: I know deep in my heart, I am not in any way sexist. And I knew there would be people who would think that. There was a small part of me that was excited about ruffling some feathers 'cause I never do that, you know? I'm not that kind of person." Parker intended the song as tongue-in-cheek.
