Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Grand Est, France
At the crossroads of influences coming from all sides, Taxi Kebab from Nancy, France is the collision between synthesizers, drum machines, modulated guitars and amplified buzuq. In a re-appropriation of her father's language, Lea Leïla Jiqqir (buzuq, guitar and voice) interferes with the acidic arpeggios and dripping strings of Romain Henry's machine experiments.
Mostly electronic, the Franco-Moroccan duo's music sometimes mixes with krautrock, psych and techno influences, inhabited by the spectre of North African roots. Leaving bits of troubled identities, their sound, like a nocturnal escape, criss-crosses the landscapes through a raw, psychedelic, disorientated sound.
Taxi Kebab unfortunately decided to call it quits in March 2023, after 5 years and 1 EP.
