Biography
Taxi To The Ocean was a Dutch alternative rock band (1994-2007), originally from Baarn, The Netherlands, but later part of the thriving early-2000s indie scene of Utrecht.
Personnel: Just Posthumus (vocals, guitar), Remmert Velthuis (drums, sampling),
Robin van Saaze (guitar), Joost Oskamp (bass, vocals), Sander Oskamp (guitar, synths).
The first incarnation of Taxi To The Ocean (1994-1999), with Sjam Sjamsjoedin on drums, did not release any music. This changed when Remmert Velthuis joined the band, an arrival that had a profound effect on 'Taxi's' blend of indie rock, inspired by 1990s grunge, Motorpsycho, The Who and 'prog' bands such as Gentle Giant and King Crimson.
The band was prolific in the first half of the 'noughties', got rave reviews and toured relentlessly, especially in 2006 and 2007, in The Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic. They also opened The Stranglers on a three-week U.K. trek. Their 'big break' in The Netherlands, however, failed to materialise - and the band members parted ways in 2007.
Robin van Saaze enjoyed success in Drive Like Maria. Joost Oskamp went solo and now released his music under the name Oskamp. Taxi To The Ocean played a few reunion gigs in 2016.
