Firstly coming from a 1965 single, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is one of the most famous songs of The Animals; it was originally written as a ballad for the female jazz singer Nina Simone (see: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood), initially recorded in 1964 as a single for her "Broadway-Blues-Ballads" album.
Later it was covered by The Animals' lead singer Eric Burdon (see: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood) and followers, such as Joe Cocker (see: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood), Santa Esmeralda (see: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood), Place of Skulls (see: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood) etc.
Later on it was also used as a sample in the track 'dontgetit' of American rapper Lil Wayne.
