It's a bootleg version of the Avalanches official mix "Gimix" Which, if you don't know what Gimix is, it's basically an early version of Since I Left You that included several samples that couldn't get passed for official release so were, in turn, removed in the commercial version of Since I Left You. When I Met You, is the work of a bootlegger who basically expanded on the Gimix mix. To give a quick run down, it's basically all of the songs from Gimix plus a bunch of long snippets and mixes from the original songs that are used as samples throughout the album to add to the length and overall essence.

cool, I’m just finding out about this, and I’m kind of shocked because it sounds amazing and so different. Do you know how they got away with releasing this without getting in trouble? and if the bootlegs are just studio leaks, or copies of the tapes they were selling at concerts? It’s hard to find info about, sorry

If memory serves, I remember at some point reading about When I Met You being linked to the tapes, but obviously at that point it's hearsay since as you stated, it's difficult to find much info, even when you attempt to deep dive. And as for the legality, I'd hazard to say it's pretty similar to many other unauthorized releases where it was underground enough to not really garner any traction that could lead to repercussions, since it obviously wasn't linked with a record label attempting to have samples approved for an official release (compared to Since I Left you, of course).

This is a bootleg version of GIMIX, pretty fucked up that it's on last.fm as if it's condoned by The Avalanches. They had nothing to do with the repackaging of GIMIX in this form.

Holiday is worth it. Just listen again. It is a fuzion of house and disco and 80's synth and can also be used for Christmas radio stations and any other 'Holidy' for that matter plus it is electronic music. [tag]tinsel elastik[/tag]

to quote myself further down the page: "it's an expanded & restructured version of the GIMIX megamix the Avs released prior to Since I Left You. The other artists named are simply the most prominent sample on a given track. It's definitely Avalanches, but it's got more of a mixtape feel, with the samples up-front and whole, instead of the snippets woven into their debut LP. " it is bootleg, but it is awesome.

I have never heard of this album. I listened to it, and came to the conclusion that it's a fantastic mix.

Still rediculously addictive. Aural crack. And janiz666 is wrong, this is miles beyond Gimix and much more entertaining...

This is fucking amazing and if you have it you know it's possibly even more addictive than the original Since I Left You album.. goddamn. Hall & Oates with ODB and Hendrix w/ Lauper?! Come on.
