Wow, not a single comment! The only "knock" I could make on this album is that it lacks the brilliant songwriting of The Band. In every other way, though, it's absolutely brilliant. The playing throughout is perfect. In fact, as good as The Band has always been (I'd say they're maybe the tightest unit in Rock history), this is arguably their zenith as an ensemble. Garth Hudson is the star of the album, though. Whereas most covers albums sound like lazy, dashed off affairs, this one has the feel of a carefully considered and constructed work of art. All of these songs are suited perfectly to The Band's style and all of them are reshaped and rearranged to the point where they sound and feel like Band songs. Great album.
