This song along with “Norwegian Wood”, “In My Life”, “Michelle”, and “I’m Looking Through You” are my personal favorites.

[2] The musicianship is extraordinary, but then, they are the Beatles where extraordinary was the norm. I mean, most groups if you told them the tracks from Let it Be would be their Greatest Hits they would be elated. To the Beatles it was a failure. I mean, look at their production, major artists today put out records every 2-3 years They put out one every six months. That was one reason why the break up, it was hard to keep up that kind of production and keep the quality high. They had to top their last effort or the critics would have ripped them to pieces. They also kept pushing the envelop with each record being different than the last. Most groups you hear one of their songs you have heard them all. That's why there so few really great ones.

Never really thought about this song, but now it's sort of stuck in my head and I really like it.

@RoomForSymmetry I don't think so - John was married, and had been married for a couple of years at this point, and was cheating on Cynthia voraciously.

"I feel as though you ought to know that I've been good, as good as I can be..." John wrote that for his girl at the time, letting her know he's been good while he was away on tour

as far as i know this song was basically recorded during the help sessions. That's why it doesn't really fit into the Rubber Soul songs, which are another dimension. It took me thousands of listens to realise the quality enormous leap they made from Help to Rubber Soul. A fantastic album, a true classic.

Sure, John and Paul probably considered it filler, but it doesn't change it being one of the greatest Beatles songs. Absolutely fantastic. Perfect song.
