Lately come to reappreciate this one a bit. You can hear the songs are not quite at the level they would reach with London Calling yet, but it's still a really good record. Especially songs like Safe European Home, All the Young Punks and one of the first punk ballads ever in Stay Free, that show they ready to evolve to the next step.

great album. in my opinion much better than "combat rock" , "sandinista" and "the clash [uk]" [2]

Underrated as hell. Been listening to this one a lot lately and IMO there isn't a bad song on here.

It is no wonder to hear Blue Öyster Cultish hues on this album as Sandy Pearlman is sitting on the producer's chair. I love BÖC, and I've always enjoyed Pearlman's style and production values - I think that him combined with The Clash is an interesting collaboration. A nice album to be sure.

i love the production on this album... the clash had such an incredible musical chemistry, they need as clear a sound as possible so you can hear how they play off each other... fuck that ascetic "punk" low budget bullshit

third best clash album - i concur with that 'sandwiched between two monsters' notion

Good album. The production is a bit tacky on some of the songs, but not enough to ruin this album.

This is a very good album indeed, it just lacks a little something that the self titled and London Calling had, which marks it down. It's still very much worth a listen, as are all The Clash CD's.
