Biography

The alt-country movement has been a blessing to those who mix rock and country, which is about as exact a description of the Ditchdiggers as you need.

Formed in the mid-90's, The Ditchdiggers brought their own brand of cowpunk to the Southeast – touring over 200 shows in 5 yrs.

As one reviewer put it –"They definitely rock, but their hearts are well out in the country. A lot of the songs on Cow Patty Bingo work–"I Don't Want to Know" is a standout–the guitars rip and the rhythm section rattles along like a freight train, and singer Chris Gray sounds at times like a rural Eddie Vedder (strangely convincing). There's a lot to recommend about this record and perhaps there'll be even more to praise on their next one. "–Chris Nickson

Review
by Andy Hinds (All Music.com)
Lovable cowpunks the Ditchdiggers mix a lively white trash cocktail that's equal parts rock, country, and surf on the raucous Light and Salvation. Lead singer (and Elvis lookalike) Chris Gray ruminates on appropriate subjects such as "Cheap Hotels," "Mudflap Cutie"s, and "Flatbed Love," while guitarists Lars Nagel and Bryan Stuart provide a suitably twangy bed of barnstorming rockabilly guitars. The Ditchdiggers' obvious kitsch factor is balanced by their solid playing and fun, memorable songs.
