I'm sure there's an objectively better Doors song, but this is as good as it can get as far as I'm concerned. It's almost physically impossible to not sing along to it any time it comes on.

According to band members, the song was about a soldier/sailor on his last day with his girlfriend before shipping out to war (Vietnam). Hence the lyrics "Love me two times, I'm goin' away.. (in 'Nam")

Guitar riff is amazing, and equally as amazing to me is the "bouncing bass" behind it. Incredible song melodically!

Listening to the album "Strange Days" the second by the band. Released in 1967 with all song writing credited to the entire band. Douglas Lubahn on bass guitar. The album, although reaching #3 on the charts, was considered by the producer, Paul A Rothchild, to be a commercial failure because he expected it would top the Beatles and all others in sales. Remember with all the great music released in 1967 the top selling album in the USA was "More Of The Monkees" by The Monkees.
