Bought the first album when it came out but sort of put it aside after a few listens. Years later I came back to it (and picked up the other two albums they'd put out in the intervening years) and I've really been enjoying this stuff. I guess at the time I was too hung up on the still fairly recent "hiatus" of Fugazi and hoping they'd get back together, so I was kind of inadvertently dismissive of what I condescendingly thought was a "cute diversion" or something equally smug. Well, it ain't Fugazi (what is?) but it doesn't aspire to be or need to be. This is two very talented musicians playing some pretty amazing music that never sounds "quaint" or "twee" or any of the other words you might expect to apply to a two-person band of man/woman significant others; the sound is pretty spare at times but never overly spare, and they manage to kick up a pretty good ruckus when the mood strikes them. I like all three of the albums they've released but The Odds is the best in my book.

Got to see the Evens play at a record store near my apartment in Chicago. Turns out it used to be a distribution center for Dischord: http://portlyadolescence.tumblr.com/post/54913982108/the-evens-logan-hardware-july-1-2013

I saw them live in a small venue when I was 16 and it's still one of the best shows I've ever been to. That totally honest interaction between musician and audience coming together as equals was what made it for me and is something I have appreciated in live music ever since (when it's there, which is unfortunately not all that often).
