It's too sad to even think that this was almost the final Fall album. So much great music we would've missed out on. This is one of the group's absolute best, though, and would've been a fitting last gasp. Like I said in my previous comment, "Hip Priest," "Winter" and "Who Makes the Nazis?" are my favorites, but you really can't go wrong with any of the songs on here. "Iceland" is one of a kind, "Jawbone and the Air-Rifle" and "Mere Pseud Mag. Ed." drip vitriol and venom, "And This Day" is about as noisy as The Fall (or anyone) has ever gotten, "Just Step S'ways" is catchy as hell... what a record.

One of the best albums of the 80s. The bitterness is on full display here, as is Mark E. Smith's genius as a songwriter and lyricist. Hip Priest, Winter and Who Makes the Nazis? are the highlights for me. Love the harmonics only bass on the latter.

I think this is my favourite Fall record... doesn't mean it's the best but I definitely love the raw guitar sound on this album and the theme.

I gpt this over two years ago and loved it, but never looked into any more Fall till now. I think this was because Hex is just so amazing I didn't think anything would be able to compare. So far, nothing has.
