Biography

If you cross the lyrical honesty and relatable storytelling of Bob Dylan, the soulful sentimentality of Neko Case, the foot-stomping groove of The Band, and an eclectic musical style along the lines of Wilco, you get The Marietta James. Jason Emery (vocals, guitars) and Jeff Fuller (drums, percussion), who previously played together in bands based out of Atlanta, GA, formed the roots of the group. Over time, their indie-rock style of music underwent a metamorphosis as the band naturally gravitated towards staying true to their southern, folk and Americana roots, thus, The Marietta James were born. In 2005 the band made the move out west to Los Angeles, their present home base, where they added Drew Jorgensen (bass), Mishkar Nunez (violin, keys) and Zeahna Young (vocals, guitar, flute, melodica) to the mix to complete the lineup. Currently, The Marietta James have recently released their first EP, are successfully composing music for television commercials, and have just played the 2010 Topanga Days Festival and Santa Barbara's “Musical Café” on Cox Cable Channel 17, as well as numerous Los Angeles venues including The Echo, The Echoplex, Silverlake Lounge, The Derby, The Mint, The Gig, The Knitting Factory, Molly Malone’s, The Bordello, Cinema Bar, The Redwood Bar and The Cat Club on the Sunset Strip (two year residency held at this venue).
