    Right, but both songs sound more similar and are separated by a few years. besides, Wilson acknowledged many times. during PT's last years and the beginning of his solo career, the influence that the mars volta had on his songwriting.

I think what I like best out of this song is the fact that it's actually a standard pop song structurally (Verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown-bridge-chorus-outro), stretched out to epic proportions.
