Biography

The Misery Science was originally formed as an acoustic act in 2006 by Christian Dyer (Lead vocals, guitar) and Andy Attebery (Bassist, backup vocals). Although the infant band only played one show as a two piece, the response was overwhelmingly positive and, not surprisingly, created a number of fans before even adding a full lineup.

The band expanded considerably shortly thereafter, adding Eric Olson (Drums, backup vocals), Sean-Michael Riley (Keyboards, Samples), and Erich Goebel (Lead guitar); each bringing their own extensive amount of experience, talent, and ideas to the growing project.

Considered to be a cross between Coldplay and Smashing Pumpkins, the band released their self titled debut album in 2008. Almost immediately, local radio stations put Misery Science officially on the map with the hits “Keying Cars”, “Again”, and “Waking Up.” The band was featured on PDX49 as a promotion for several of their shows. Before long, Misery Science was invited to play with Jon Davidson, Element 57, King Black Acid, and many others who were happy to share the spotlight.

Inevitably, fame and fortune became too much for many of the members. Christian Dyer stopped flossing for political reasons and lost his teeth to sour patch kids. Erich Goebel became the new spokesman for the Hair Club for Men and was “too good” for the band. Andy Attebery spent months out of town with his Japanese mistress. Sean-Michael finally fell into that alcoholic coma he’d been looking forward to. Eric Olson became a lecturer on the evils of wheat at an airport Holiday Inn near you.

Oh, wait…that last part is yet to come.

In the meantime, The Misery Science has been touring up and down the West coast, adding fans wherever they go and working on new material and new ideas in the tumult. With eyes on the future and looking to expand even further than the Northwest, there’s no telling where they may end up.
