back in 2010 when the band were touring for High Violet, I was fortunate to catch them at the House of Blues in Houston. They played Terrible Love during the encore and Matt proceeded to jump into the crowd, and he walked around enough that he came over to where I was during the "it takes an ocean not to break" part and I was able to scream it into his ear. I also accidentally stepped on one of his feet. Sorry Matt.

My head pretty much exploded when they played this live. Even the album version is so hectic and immersive.

"There's a few people who seem like they've never heard a lo-fi recording in their life, album version sounds great" - Don't worry, I have heard plenty of lo-fi recordings. Early Elliott Smith, Jason Molina, young Conor Oberst etc. They mostly were lo-fi because the artists were not able to use better equipment at that particular time in their careers. When a successful artist tries to create a false impression by using sub-standard recording techniques then it just comes off pretentious like an amateur filmmaker shooting in black and white to appear more sophisticated or a white person with dreadlocks. PS: I still love The National though.

помню один из кошмарных моментов жизни. я ехала в автобусе, так совпало, что как раз играла эта песня, и я плакала из-за ссоры. действительно, ужасная любовь

Well, the album version sounds "muffled" but the alternate version sounds "crisper", that's why I prefer it.
