Biography
The O'Darling is a six person affair; a musical engagement redefining the new Canadian sound. From BC, Manitoba and Nova Scotia; Jennah Barry (Vocals/Piano/Accordion), Ida Maidstone (Vocals/Piano/Glock), Chantel Emond (Vocals/Percussion), Olivier Cléments (Trumpet/Flugel), David Barry (Guitar) and Colin Nealis (Double Bass) are described as "…an acoustic fairytale with pop sensibility…". Their exceptional musicianship and thoughtful songwriting, paired with contrasting but perfectly blended personalities make this band a visual and sonic feast. After their Toronto formation in 2007 the band went straight to work on their first EP (The O'Darling - A Nice E.P.) The band felt an overwhelming response to their homemade release and decided to pack up and truck to Victoria BC for a summer of focused writing and band bonding. In a short 3 months they cruised the city, quickly becoming part of the young Victoria music scene. This West Coast audience prompted the band to embark on a month-long, cross-Canadian tour which was not only a success for their EP and rising band buzz, but for the unfolding of their remarkably unique sound. With air time on CBC Radio and exciting opportunities with both established and fellow up-and-coming bands, The O'Darling is most certainly on the rise. The band now resides in Toronto where, along with a steady string of shows in and out of the city, they are recording their first full length album set to be released in spring/summer 2009.
