Found a review of their self-titled that mentions a "hidden message" in "The Troubles" https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2009/12/28/819774/- "The first of the three words being sung by the sisters -- "boyfriend," "Ireland," and "ocean" -- over one another, gets preceded by an "uh," and a word fleetingly appears that wasn't there before but that changes the entire tenor and meaning of what is otherwise a pretty light song." Does anybody know what the author is referring to here?

You know I sort of took that ending as just a quirky joke that kind of falls flat but I can see what you're saying there. It can seem silly to try to analyze the meaning of such a joke-y song on the surface but you have to think there must've been some message there given how charged the times and subject were. Maybe a sort of ironic display of solidarity as Irish Catholics themselves?

Realized it now. It's meant to sound like the word "abortion." Feel dumb for having missed this!
