Doing a little research on the song itself, nobody seems to mention the Confederate flag. I did find another name for it though, the "stars and bars". So it seems not many people refer to the flag as the "Southern Cross". Dio has also said in several interviews that the song is about the constellation that you can only see from the southern hemisphere.

Nobody with actual intellect calls the Confederate Flag the southern cross, they just call it the Confederate Flag or the flag of the Tennessee Army. Also, pretty sure the constellation was around before the flag. I've seen Black Sabbath with Dio and they played that song and he mentioned how it was inspired by his first trip to Australia. So what's wrong with the name is that it's either named after a misinformed name for an outdated redneck flag or it's named after a constellation that can't be seen from the northern hemisphere.

That and the whole "we're badass because we're from the south" gimmick. Still can't get over the stupid name.

Sounds like Down? WTF? Damn, this shit sounds too fucking artificial. the only similarity with Down is how the vocalist can sound like Phil, nothing more.

Sounds like a complete ripoff of Down. Also, did anybody tell them that Sign of the Southern Cross is a song about Australia yet these guys are in America? You can't even see the Southern Cross from where they are.
