Biography
Richmond, VA (2007 – present)
A mix of jangle, drone and swirl in the tradition of noise-poppers like Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, and My Bloody Valentine, Snowy Owls blend daydreaming melodies over washes of fuzzed out guitar. The interlocking guitar lines and hushed vocals are deceptively infectious, like a pop-beast lurking in the shadows. On stage they strike a balance between levity and ferocity. The band was born in 2007 as the meandering solo project of multi-instrumentalist Matt Klimas (Low Branches). After recruiting bassist Allen Bergendahl, drummer Brandon Martin (Lubec) and guitarist James Wingo (Ghost Lotion) the group took shape as a full-fledged rock/shoegaze outfit.
The live shows incorporate sound-reactive projections by Dave Watkins, using band created videos – bathing the stage in swirling colors and visual feedback.
They self-released the single “Yr Eyes” in July 2011 and are part of a split 10” with White Laces on Harding Street Assembly Lab out in January 2012. They are currently writing and recording their debut full-length record due out later in 2012.
