Biography

The Squish started out as a four-piece, although singer and songwriter Kris Ruston pretty much ran the show. Released in 1999, their debut showed an obvious affinity for the Rentals with its fuzzy guitars and '80s synth lines. The album also showed Ruston to be a promising songwriter with a firm grasp on melody and song arrangement. Unfortunately, the band broke up shortly after the album and Ruston was left to record the band's next album alone. Ruston only managed ten songs, eight of which appeared on Still So Sweet. The new songs showed off Ruston's amazing technical skill while still retaining his pop sensibility. But Ruston never managed to put together a touring band and album sales faltered. Frustrated, Ruston eventually gave up on the Squish entirely and hit the road with a country band. In 2002, Ruston went back to school to study music composition. He currently lives in Kamloops and teaches guitar. Recently, he's written loads of new material, but has finished almost none of it. He's in a million other bands, too.
