The Squish started out as a four-piece, although singer and songwriter Kris Ruston pretty much ran the show. Released in 1999, their debut showed an obvious affinity for the Rentals with its fuzzy guitars and '80s synth lines. The album also showed Ruston to be a promising songwriter with a firm grasp on melody and song arrangement.
