https://genius.com/10128771 My dear friend, who had and still has a beautiful smile, didn't like their smile. And yet the hesitancy in the smile actually added to its beauty and allure.......

Lou Reed: "Yeah, it’s about Candy Darling – and trying to see things from that point of view, but it’s also about something more profound and universal, a universal feeling I think all of us have at some point. We look in the mirror and we don’t like what we see. I return to it in Songs for Drella … All of us have that at some point, “I wish I was different. I wish I had curly hair, or straight hair. Whatever. I don’t know a person alive who doesn’t feel that way. That’s what the song is really about – and not only in looks, but in what you require."

So this is basically a slowcore song, that deals with dysphoria issues released in 1969. Love it.

Gorgeous. Quite a change of pace from the song that kicked off the previous record.

How odd that old songs can suddenly reappear after you haven't heard them for so long, and touch your soul almost as deeply as first time? I guess Candy Darling did walk away from herself...as so many others, and now Lou. "But there are things that we can't know maybe there's something over there; Some other world that we don't know about...I know you hate this mystic shit...". I hope there is such a place, and all such strange, graceful and beautiful folk are there in harmony and peace, with no more pain. X
