The song was written by him, Doc McKinney, Prince 85, Dylan Wiggins, Magnus Høiberg, and William Thomas Walsh, and produced by the singer alongside McKinney, Cirkut, Cashmere Cat, and Prince 85. It was one of the tracks of Starboy to be featured in the short film Mania. It received early airplay from urban and urban AC radio in August 2017 then was sent to rhythmic contemporary radio on September 19, 2017, as the album's fifth single in the United States.

In 2022, the song experienced a resurgence in popularity, due to the online social media application TikTok. Therefore, the song impacted US radio, achieving a new peak within the top ten of the Hot 100.
