With the Stateside success of Tommy and Who's Next, Decca released the group's first U.S. best-of batch in time for Christmas 1971, introducing America to the mod singles that had made them stars in the U.K. Of their countless hit collections, this is the one that has been judged definitive by critics and fans. Townshend has called it "the greatest of Who albums" noting that "it reminds us of who we really are."
