It doesn't get much better than this. The incredibly complex title track, the reworking of "Bolivar Blues," the lovely tribute to the great bebop patroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter, the cover of the classic "I Surrender, Dear," one of Monk's best interpretations of an old favorite, the perhaps definitive version of his own "Bemsha Swing"... this is all top tier stuff, then throw in a killer band featuring Sonny Rollins, Oscar Pettiford, Max Roach, Paul Chambers and Clark Terry (on "Bemsha Swing"), plus one of the best album covers of all time as the cherry on top and you've got one of the all time great jazz LPs. Monk + Riverside = Greatmess.

I wish Monk made more music with this group. Himself with Sonny, Mr. P.C., and Max Roach.
