Biography

Theory : Astray is an alternative metal act hailing from the shores of Alcona Beach, Ontario about 20 minutes south of Barrie. Members, all out of school with jobs ranging from cooking to autism mediation, include:
Alex Greason (drummer / backup vocals ,age 24),
Dan Stabb (lead vocals / djembe, age 24),
Ted Wilson (bass, age 24),
Jamie Goodyear (guitars / backup vocals, age 24) and
Ryan Leduc (guitars, age 26).

Dan, Jamie and Ted began the band in 2001, choosing to spend their time in a creative manner rather than follow the town's growing trend of loitering outside the local coffee shop to sell and or score bad club drugs. After recruiting Ryan through a band of mutual friends and finding Alex on a desperate Facebook search of persons with "drumming" as part of their interests, the current line-up has been together for approximately 2 years. During that time, Theory : Astray has been turning heads and pushing themselves harder than ever before. With the release of their newest EP, Perseverance In Spite Of All, the Alcona natives SOLD OUT their release party at The Mansion Nightclub (formerly known as The Foundation Nightclub) in Barrie and have been given the opportunity to play stages including The Reverb, The Opera House, The Bovine and due to massive success with SUPERNOVA, had the opportunity to headline at The Sound Academy. The bands unique style can be attributed to their eclectic tastes ranging from the technical proficiency of bands like Protest The Hero and Lamb Of God, the grooves and bounce of Rage Against The Machine and the ominous intrigue of Tool. They are a band that, paired with an intensely fierce live persona, has reaction for the average listener and rewards those who look further, with intelligent, thought provoking lyrics with atypical topics ranging from the horrors of The Spanish Inquisition and Salem Witch Trials in 'Seer' to a relived tale of love and psychiatric delusion in 'Folie A Deux'. There is also significant influence within the band through artists such as Alex Grey as well as writers Daniel Pinchbeck, Terence McKenna and Barbara Handclow. The band is currently neck deep in the writing process of their first full length release which touches on the end-times prophecies of 2012; a topic growing in popularity among the general public. They plan to hit studio in the early summer of '09. As far as an agenda, the band has simple intentions. To continue to utilize the band as an outlet for their observations of the world condition while exponentially growing a fan base outside of Barrie and hopefully, awakening this world to its' ability to harness its' creative or destructive nature. Being from a small town, Theory : Astray has had to push and promote harder than the average city band to build relationships within the industry and be seen as more than a small fish in a big pond. Stronger than their desire to make tidal waves in the industry that upheave the generic "Nickleback-esque" representation of the Canadian Music Industry is their love of music and the processes involved in creating it. With every foothold found, the band continues its' push and is appreciative of every opportunity that arises.
