"Look What The Wind Blew In" appeared on the eponymous Thin Lizzy debut album. Like most of the band's songs it was written by bass player Phil Lynott, and was inspired by Gail Barber, a nascent journalist and Lynott's one time live-in lover. The song contains a pun on her name, about a gale from the North blowing in. Lynott lived in Dublin, and Gail Barber was from Belfast.

Thin Lizzy is an Irish hard rock band who formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. The band were led throughout their recording career by bassist, songwriter and singer Phil Lynott, and are best known for their songs Whiskey in the Jar, Jailbreak and The Boys Are Back in Town, all major international hits still played regularly on hard rock and classic rock radio stations.
