I love their later albums but I really don't understand why they didn't just change their name before going in that direction. Changing styles slightly or getting a new singer is fine but they no longer resemble their earlier work. I think when you've distanced yourself enough, you should just rebrand.

Very fair statement but I think it's mostly because it's the same band members just without a singer. Empire Theory also sounds totalllyyy different than Dreamhouse though so I don't really mind that they didn't rebrand, it just kinda fits them. Or maybe it's cause they didn't wanna lose any fans, who knows.

yeah, I think I've come around to liking their post-rock instrumentals better. I enjoyed Dreamhouse fine, but Every Nothing is a masterpiece.

It's kinda a shame they turned into a post-rock band, they had such good lyrics. [1] This is the main thing I miss from the shift to instrumental, those lyrics were gorgeous and so well written.

I don't really care about whether they have vocals or not, I like Young and Courageous, but I found them a lot more interesting instrumentally in their previous albums - if they carried the energy and complexity that they had in Empire Theory or Dreamhouse over into another release, simply without vocals, I think I would like it much more. As it is, Y&C feels like well executed, yet somewhat run-of-the-mill post-rock.

Tides of Man without vocals is just as good as Tides of Man with vocals, I'm impressed. Still, I think they should've changed their name, the new stuff is something completely different.

So I think this group is good with Tillian and without him. With Tillian it was a great progressive rock / post-hardcore band, unfortunately now he's gone, but the album are fucking amazing.

After 3 listens, I'd have to say this is my favorite instrumental album released in the past few years.

So, the new album leaked... And i'm on my first spin and it sounds really good. BUT, always the big but(t)... I'm just hearing how ridiculously a-fucking-mazing it would sound with vocals, especially Tilian. Nevertheless, they made quite a cool album even without vocals and they've proven that they can be interesting even without Til.

Their new instrumental sound is shaping up to be nothing short of beautiful.
