Torn between saying "Happy 28th birthday" and not even bothering because Pele legit transcends the boundary of "time"

I hate to disagree, but IMO Little Earthquakes is more difficult and depressive than this

After falling head over heels in love with Little Earthquakes, Boys For Pele felt impenetrable to my sixteen year old ears. It was dense and cryptic in a way I couldn’t even begin to unpack, wrathful and intense in a way I hadn’t been exposed to (I could deal with fierce, male-energy anger, but this was very different), and just plain inaccessible with its dissonant melodies and often out-of-control, wailing banshee vocals. It was unnerving; a new kind of raw, and I dismissed it as inaccessible for years—it sounded like an exorcism, and it freaked me out. Until I needed one. Years later, when I needed to crawl back to myself, it was there to take my hand and lead me to the edge of the volcano. While it's not my favorite, it is without a doubt the most ground-breaking and essential album of Tori's career, and still sounds fresh and electrifying all these years later. Happy 25th anniversary, Pele. Thanks for bringing the fire.

I was literally listening to it at least once almost every day when I posted this, lol.

used to only pay attention to the beginning of this album, but now the last half is really standing out and completing the album's perfection for me. "Not the Red Baron", "Doughnut Song", "Putting the Damage On"... I can't remember what life felt like before I discovered this album, and I don't want to

The preacher's daughter, Myra Ellen Amos... crushing the whole system with the hardest - darkest rockin' album to date, an active volcano of the 90's era - 'BOYS FOR PELE'. A trip to the South, revelations in the Church, burnin' piano, Dew Drop Inn acoustic emissions of energy through the bösendorfer, harpsichord & harmonium... and Tori survived, cuz in order to live you must go high, to the mountains high.

I love how she used the harpsichord on this album. Fucking brilliant and beautiful, her best in my opinion.

an album that simultaneously maps the landscape of one woman's mind, schemes for the disestablishment of the patriarchy, complicates and emboldens the project of feminism, and changes the course music forever. BFP is one of those albums whose production is so flawless, and whose arteries are so exposed, listening to it continues (20 years down the line) to feel like walking in on a perfect, off the cuff recording session. This album is a zeitgeist of the 1990s.

The destruction of the patriarchy, told through a fever dream-like labyrinth of feelings stemming from sadness, disappointment, and anger. This album is messy on purpose, but the production is pristine. You can hear every breath and pedal change. The feelings you get from this album are that of a Rorscharch test--very much up to the eye of the beholder.

Whoever decided to take off In the Springtime of His Voodoo and add that crappy Professional Widow remix right in the middle of the album deserves to be shot. [6]

Took me a few years to realize that this her best record. It's complex, deep and just perfect.

I found this album completely terrifying the first time I heard it. It's still terrifying, but also absolutely incredible, and one of the most emotionally naked and raw pieces of work I've ever had the pleasure of hearing.

18 songs and 70 minutes, yet it doesn't feel long at all. Yep, this is her best album.

It wasn't iTunes that messed it up. This tracklisting has been there since 1997, after the success of the PW remix. Despicable stuff.
