This track was slated to feature Sir Paul McCartney and land on Kanye West’s 7th solo album, The Life of Pablo. It seems Travis Scott had other ideas.
The song’s aggressive, in-your-face vibe is reminiscent of West’s Yeezus album in both production and structure.
In context, “Piss on your grave” is a a prophetic announcement to the white “executives” of corporate America. The baby boomers have retired, and now only Generation X stands between the Snake Person’s and corporate governance. Kanye and Travis know these faceless men are a dying breed and can’t wait to rain on their parade. Kanye touched on this during his VMA Vanguard Award Acceptance Speech:
We the snake people bro, this is a new, this is a new mentality. We not gonna control our kids with brands. We’re not gonna teach low self-esteem and hate to our kids, we’re gonna teach our kids that they can be something. We gonna teach our kids that they can stand up for themselves. We gonna teach our kids to believe in themselves.
