“Capricorn” is the first of two lead singles released for Vampire Weekend's fifth studio abum, Only God Was Above Us. The song was released on February 16, 2024 alongside “Gen-X Cops“.

Ezra Koenig said that he intended to write a song about someone who was born on December 30th or 31st, right before the new year. As a result, they would be robbed of the experience of living in their birth year—something that many people attach significant importance to—creating a potential dissonance in identity. Luckily for Koenig (who does not subscribe to astrology), the sign associated with the end of the year (Capricorn), rhymed with “born,” making for a catchy hook.
