...every few months with little forward motion. All the hard work we'd put into driving the band forward and generating momentum through our own tours, support gigs and touring with the likes of Boy Hits Car had vanished because every few months we were having to look for, audition and recruit new member, and then get them up to speed with the existing material purely so we could play live again to try and build that momentum back up. After 7 years, mounting personal debts incurred through financing the band ourselves and the same recurring pattern had taken its toll on all of us, and some felt it was time to call it a day. If you visit our myspace page (www.myspace.com/vert) you'll find a live demo of the last song we ever wrote - 'From Beyond The Shadows'. I dedicate it here to Adam Butler for being gracious enough to let us share his name for those 7 years!

Hey Schneckensaft, thanks for your kind words. Like I said in my last message, I rarely use Last.fm so have only read your comment today (18th Nov). A couple of months prior to us releasing our album 'Accepting Denial', both our drummer and guitarist quit the band. Myself (vocals) and the bassist (Andy Dorsett) recruited new players, and expanded the band to a five-piece, with Dorsett moving to guitar and us hiring a new drummer, bassist and second guitarist. This line-up remained for a little over 12 months and saw us release the album and tour it several times in the UK. Then the drummer left. We recruited a replacement, and were about ready to start playing live again (May '08) when the bassist left to return to his home in Greece. We recruited another bassist, and played what turned out to be our final show. Certain members felt like the band was going through the motions, and while some of us wanted to continue, to others it felt like we were going over the same pattern...

Sweetdy - sorry, I rarely use Last.fm and have only just read your comment. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments, and let me assure you that if we'd known about Adam Butler from the outset, we'd have gone with a different name. As we only discovered his existence several years into building our own UK-based reputation and live following, it wasn't really viable for us to change our name. As it is, we disbanded in January this year, so no harm done ;o)

I quite prefer the hiphop ragtime vaudeville storyteller Vert, really. If that one could be separated from the other ones (not sure how that'd work out), it would be prime.
