Biography
"Allow me to re-introduce myself, my name is Vince," spits the fiery Vincent Lane in one of his random freestyles, and he means it. More than a line borrowed from one of his idols (Jay-Z), that statement has a lot of meaning to this 28 year old emcee who started out rapping under the name Herm. "My nickname is Herm, actually most of my peoples call me that, because it was a childhood nickname," says Vince, "and when I started rapping it just felt comfortable to use that name." Herm (now Vincent Lane) developed his skills making music along side one of his best friends named Peek, and together Herm & Peek co-founded various groups and made a plethora of music for fun.
When Herm graduated college back in 2002, he decided to take a shot at his dream co-founding a rap group called The UN, and switched his name to Herm Dizzle, alongside two other emcees. The UN toured for about 9 months playing sold out shows alongside National Hip-Hop acts like Kia, Skillz, The Big Tymers, 50 Cent, Truth Hurts, Ja Rule, Slum Village, Eve, B-Rich, Memphis Bleek, Cam'ron, Freeway, Kid Capri & Sean Paul. During their 9 month stint, they managed to put together around 40 songs for an album that was to be titled UNtitled, but due to a group mishap, Herm Dizzle decided it would be in his best interest to leave the group he helped create. "It seriously was a good run man, we held down the Pittsburgh radio waves for a month straight with our single, we were constantly doing radio interviews and shows, but the music business proved the age old saying ‘the business is shady," says Vinny. He continues, "I mean it is seriously a job, making music is the easy part man for real, but the music part is about 4 percent of the industry, and I didn't agree with some of the ways the group was going. It just didn't feel the same anymore."
After about 6 months of not really recording much of anything, and being separated from The UN, Herm Dizzle decided he was going to take his mic out of the rafters, and start recording again. "I told myself I was gonna stop when I was let down by The UN, but I could just not stop writing," he proclaims, "so I decided to switch my name up and in a way reinvent myself. I always liked my middle name and wanted to incorporate that into an alias, so I just decided I was gonna take my middle name, and the street name I lived on, hence the name Vincent Lane."
That's why the opening line of this story is so import, because he in a sense is re-introducing himself to the rap game, and for the past 5 years he has made a transition from Herm Dawg to Herm Dizzle to Vince Lane as he often states on the tracks he blesses. He explains, "Vincent Lane is the culmination of everything I have ever wanted to do musically, and I will continue to grow as I experience more in life."
