Biography

War Brides follow in a long line of Midwest post-hardcore, calling to mind the sounds of Slint and Shiner with echoes of 1000 Hurts era Shellac. Their music, however, is by no means dated, as they slot just as comfortably alongside contemporaries like noise rock’s Pissed Jeans and post-metal’s (and fellow Chicagoans) Pelican.

War Brides formed in 2011, quickly honing their sound of clout and punch with the release of the EP, Terminus. The EP garnered praise from, amongst others, UK blogger, Sludgelord, who referred to the album as “ a superior assault on the senses.” Two years on and countless live shows later, the band is poised to release their follow up album, Burden, in Summer 2013.

Tracked at Howl Street Recordings in Milwaukee during the latter half of 2012, the band enlisted Chicago engineer, Carl Saff (Guided By Voices, Chelsea Light Moving, Dinosaur Jr., Unsane), to master the EP. If the recent live shows can be taken as a fair preview of the sophomore effort, the atmosphere surrounding the foursome has shifted to more of a when, not if.
