  • Founded In

    Ontario, Canada

Warpig is a Canadian rock band who had gained a fan following in the Ontario, Canada club circuit in the 1970s and performed shows with such acts as Wishbone Ash, Savoy Brown, Manfred Mann, and Mahogany Rush. Blabbermouth.net has referred to the band's lone studio album as, "an early masterwork of psychedelic proto-metal."

Formation and album release (1968-1973)

Before forming Warpig in 1968, band members Rick Donmoyer, Dana Snitch, Terry Hook, and Terry Brett had played in several amateur groups like Mass Destruction, the Wot, and the Kingbees. They signed to an independent label called Fonthill Records and completed their debut album in 1970. In 1973, London Records re-released the album with two tracks re-recorded with Terry Brown, who would later produce for Rush, and with a new album cover. Later in between June and July of that year, the re-recorded version of their single "Rock Star" made the RPM charts for 7 seven weeks peaking at 52. A second album was in the making, but was never finished.

Breakup and reunion (1974–1975, 2004–present)

Members Terry Hook and Dana Snitch left the band between 1974 and 1975 causing the group to disband. Rick Donmoyer would later play with the band, Ash Mountain. The band would reunite in 2004 after copies of their debut album starting attracting high prices on eBay. Their self-titled album would then be reissued in 2006 on Relapse Records. The album was digitally re-mastered and featured a new layout created by Orion Landau. It was released in North America on October 3, 2006 and six days later it was released worldwide.
