Biography

WE CAN'T ENJOY OURSELVES play jaunty, jangley post-Thatcherite Pop music. They are so new, so fledgling that their bio could fit very nicely on a gravestone. Members Caley Monahon-Ward (drums), Christ Van Voorst Van Beast (bass), and Giovanni Saldarriaga (voice/writer) don't play dreamy or hazy pop music even though they enjoy those kinds of things enormously. Their music is definitely danceable but more like the Kinks and Supremes raised on a diet of marxism and dirty french novels than disco done by deadening dud. They have no politics and no pretensions but understand the necessity of those things in this world. They believe strongly in degeneracy and frivolity but are visibly shaken when those kind of things get out of hand. They do not think Calvin Johnson destroyed rock n' roll but they do think he gave it a good run for its money. Most of their songs are based on stills from Ernest Borgnine movies. They have lots of regard for small mammals and fallen arches and for Montgomery Clift's character in Red River. They are playing a lot of shows this fall for no reason whatsoever.
