1) this album would be infinitely better with mikey in the band 2) weezer had already used and abused mikey by this point, so without him, this album would be at least a lot better if “american gigolo” had been a single b-side instead of an album opener

3) also sorry, you can’t have a great album with this many obvious classic rock/soul plagiarisms on it, so you’d have to sub out some of these songs for some of the better outtakes like “high up above,” “don’t pick on me,” and the beautiful falsetto version of “sandwiches time.” that could’ve been an excellent album. or they could’ve just kept mikey and “gigolo” and the plagiarism stuff would’ve worked out just fine

i wish so badly mikey played this album, i like scott too but i feel like mikey shoulda had this. there's that version of december with his backing vocals i honestly think is way better than the album version, would you agree?

listen to the mikey versions of “american gigolo” in particular, they really underscore how weezer’s new badass hard rock pose came with a big wink and a nod at first. it hugely improves the material, which in those early stages felt much more like a cool mutation of the classic weezer sound (as green did, in a very different way). when mikey got kicked from the band that self-aware charm went with him, and the album – while mostly pretty good – comes across like a different band

(you’re probably right about his “december” too, but it’s been years since the last time i actually went through all the material. “gigolo” just stuck in my head as the bellwether, and i remember all the early mala material feeling much more natural on the live bootlegs/videos from when mikey was still on board)

are there any archives of the rivers correspondence board anymore, in which rivers cuomo posted as 'Ace' and promoted this album as the second coming for rock music

Kind of a shame that they didn't include the Radio Version of Keep Fishin' on some kind of deluxe version of this album. It was quite the pain in the ass to find a lossless version of it online

yeah but it hasnt been included on the album, and also i meant a lossless version so a FLAC version of it, which things like youtube cant provide bc they compress the audio/video

they actually got as far as mailing those demos to hundreds of radio stations before the label noticed https://ew.com/article/2002/03/19/weezer-asks-stations-not-air-new-album/

Probably Weezer'S darkest/depressive record, more so than Pinkerton, feels far more jaded and fed up, Rivers sounds really exhausted mentally on this record

Wow, listened to this yesterday, forgot how great this album was. Maybe even their second best, behind the Blue Album. Much better than the Green Album before it, and Make Believe after it, and loads better than any album that came after that.

Personally, it's my favorite Weezer album. It's like a great mix of all the albums that came before it

Very true. Like the three albums before it were mixed in a blender, and out popped Maladroit. "Keep Fishin'" is so infectious!

Maybe my second favorite Weezer album after Pinkerton. I love the heavier sound this one has, compared to the others in their discography, along with the fact that songs like Death And Destruction and Burndt Jamb are very different to everything else they have done.

imo make believe, green, ewbaite and white are better. it's not a bad album, but it doesn't deserve the hype it gets.

the anti make believe meme is worse than the shilling for this mediocre album. honestly make believe has 7 great songs. this has 2. it sounds like a high school band who just discovered power chords and iron maiden.

No seriously, why did everyone (including myself) forget this piece of gold existed?

Fuck the 'only two good albums' consensus; this is choice. [2] In fact, every Weezer album has something awesome, even *gulps* Raditude.
