When watching his live show, be it solo acoustic or with his band it’s easy to see why Wes has been able to build himself a loyal following wherever he goes. Whether it’s his sense of humor, the easy going, laid back, solid presence he brings to the stage, or the fact that you can’t stop singing his songs for hours after hearing them, I’d say it’s harder to find a reason to not want to follow him.
In 2009, Wes packed his bags and left long time home Colorado for the Windy City. Shortly thereafter, he teamed up with Chad Weis (tour manager and sound engineer for Martin Sexton, Mason Jennings, Ben Kweller, etc.) to record his first solo album at Weis's studio in Minneapolis, MN. “It’s really the album I’ve always been trying to make,” says Kirkpatrick. “I wanted to just stay with it until it was exactly the way I wanted it to be. I didn’t want to rush this one. A lot of love, hard work, good times and not so good times went into it and I think in the end I mixed it up enough to make a great album.”
While in Colorado, Wes released two albums "Here We Go" (2005), and "Opportunity" (2009) with his brother Ryan and their band The Kirkpatrick Project. Touring in support of those albums Wes played on stages from California to Boston and most everywhere in between. With a new set of songs and a new band, Wes will revisit many of those same stages along with a great host of new ones. Although he’ll have some new faces with him, Wes will still be bringing the same smooth, enjoyable feel that has drawn fans to him in the past.
Wes has shared the stage with the likes of Martin Sexton, The Wood Brothers, Sean Hayes, Blues Traveler, HANSON, JJ Grey & Mofro,State Radio, ALO, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, Todd Snider, Jay Nash, Matthew Mayfield and Jonah Smith to name a few.
