I'm really grateful we now have really beautiful, introspective music from Hayden, but Wild Beasts was so different that each project is its own thing so I really miss the swagger this band had. The horniness, if you will.

I'm heartbroken, one of my favourite bands ever. It's sad to see such a dissappointing album as their last, always thought their magnum opus was still ahead

Boy King is pretty good. Present Tense is still the best Wild Beasts record though by a large margin.

Absolutely beautiful and incredible show here in Toronto last night! It was an honour to watch this brilliant quartet perform. Odd timing that they should be here in Canada on the same day as the news of Leonard Cohen's passing was released. As they are big fans of the legend they were quite emotional and paid tribute to him with a moving performance of one his songs during their set. It was quite special and a delight to witness, in the wake of this great loss... Also had the pleasure of having a lengthy chat with Tom after the show! He was kind, generous and very humble. It was a memorable night indeed. On a side note, the support act, Porcelain Raft was also really terrific. :)

Honestly not into the new album save a couple tracks, such a departure from a lot of the things I enjoyed from the last three albums....Maybe I'll give another try in a couple of months

I really want to like Boy King, but I'm finding it tough going. I respect and admire the fact that they seek to constantly evolve their sound with each album release, but this one is a mis-step for me. i don't think the producer has really done them any favours, with vocals often drenched detrimentally in effects and few of the songs really standing out from the others until Celestial Creatures makes its stellar entrance. Unusually, the second half of this album is much better than the first, with 2BU and He the Colossus particularly notable, as well as the beautiful elegiac closer, Dreamliner, where we FINALLY get to hear Hayden's gorgeous, unfettered falsetto. So it's not a disaster, by any means, and their desire to constantly change their sound at least means we'll get something different again next time, which is a comfort, but yeah, just a 5/10 for me I'm afraid. Two Dancers remains the high watermark by some distance.

UPDATE: The new stuff is so, so much better when performed live when they give the songs some proper bottom-end (further highlighting the poor production of the LP). Their gig at Northumbria Uni last week was immense and totally surpassed my expectatations. One of my top gigs of this year, for sure.

Completely agree with this. I heard the new stuff first in concert and was blown away. Imagine my disappointment when I got home and listened to the album, and it felt repetitive, synthetic, too smooth and lacking any depth. 'Celestial Creatures' is amazing, but I'd also give it a 5/10 overall.

Boy King é incrível! Fiquei com medo que o tom meio diferente não me agradasse, e pra minha alegria acertaram em cheio mais uma vez. Como eu amo essa banda

Huge fan. For some reason, I was preparing to be underwhelmed, and the first listen didn't hit. But duh, Wild Beasts' albums take a few listens. I am realllly digging this one. Wild Beasts are solid as a rock.
