"Wintermute is an A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) character from: "Neuromancer", "Count Zero" and "Mona Lisa Overdrive" all by William Gibson--the 3 books are known as the Sprawl Trilogy... WM

This is the first time I (Dan singer of the Leeds Wintermute) has come onto this last.fm page in about 2 years or something. My my my... In regards to the numerous and lengthy posts by the electronic Wintermute, I am sincerly suprised and sorry that the fact that our two musical endeavours have the same name, has seemingly caused you so much needless worry and stress. Anyway, i came on here to announce that we (Leeds) have unfortunately stopped making music for now. But we will all be carrying on with other projects etc. Cheers to all the support of the fans in the last few years. We really have played some fucking brillians gigs and tours, and met and played with some wonderful people. Much love! -Dan

MineistheBear, I couldn't agree more... I do promise you that _this_ Wintermute has been filling Cyberpunk ears for nearly 10 years with nothing but pure electronic waves...

This is to the Leeds Wintermute guys, in reference to a rather rude set of remarks I said in reference to one of your band pics... I wanted to make sure you guys saw this and knew how I truly felt about you and music/band... since I have control over most of "Wintermute" at Last.fm, let me know if you would like a song added to the feature list or anything else... I want you to be equally represented here at last.fm--this last part is true of the other "Wintermute" projects here as well... the next post is in reference to my recent "picture" comment on one of your band pics (one with you guys with tape over your mouths in an "X" pattern each one a different color. Despite my comment, this is actually a clever gag :) and craftily avoids the more "Common" Wintermute "cyber-punk" references... good job...

You know, I have to apologize for my last comment, it has been a very bad year on a personal finance level and I really shouldn't have taken it out on you guys. I do respect you music and you as a bad--I feel you carry the moniker of "Wintermute" gracefully and with honor :) This said, I _am_ going to leave my previous post up to remind myself of how "ugly" even I can be to others, and to remind me to think twice before opening my mouth, or type harsh undeserved words... I wish you the best of fortune and success on your current--and future--tours. You as a band are doing something I am only still dreaming about--touring and spreading your music to your well earned fans... Godspeed to you and same journey in your tour travels... Matt

by the by, you can get every released WM song at artistserver.com for free( about 393 songs at last count) just an fyi. Ok, that was long, but what I was attempting to say is all the "Wintermute"s benefit from each others success, there is a tremendous amount of crossover between our audiences. And sadly, as much as I would love to, I just don't see much chance of a tour for my Wintermute. So Leeds Wintermute gains from my 10 years and massive catalog, and I gain from their great tour and performances--see win-win :) And as I have pointed out, "Wintermute" is public domain (Wintermute is a real Family name of the Wintermute family) and you can't Trademark it And the bottom line is for all the Wintermute's who were originally inspired by William Gibsons amazing books and thoughts (Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive...Pattern Recognition, etc) to carry the "Cyberpunk" banner to music world :D Thank you again for your thoughts and support :) Matt (aka WM)

DylanDutra, First off thank you for supporting Wintermute (the ambient one) as well as those upstarts from Leed ;)--totally said tongue in cheek, I have absolutely no ill feelings towards any of my "Wintermute" brothers :) and as I have said before shorts of logos ("my WM sphere") I have used since my humble beginnings nearly 10 years ago at mp3.com where my Wintermute was and always has been a proud standard bearing in the "New Music Revolution" --a holy war against the evil RIAA and their ilk--which btw is why I have always given my music away as well as sell it (if you want the nice CD and niceish artwork, then you can buy it, etc) as well as try and make every album packed to the full 80 min limit worth of music, except the original 20 or so WM albums that were released in the "glory days" of mp3.com--there CDs (DAMs) were limited to 40 or so minute due to software being on the CDr as well-- <continued in next post>

I wish the ambient project wasn't a little overshadowed here in the played tracks, it's amazing. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should somehow tag these two bands differently. Both are sick.
