Yes "going through the motions" on this album is still infinitely better than the "revitalized, rejuvenated" Yes that made mediocre albums like Talk and Magnification

Forget what anyone else says, this is a hidden gem. You just gotta appreciate that chaotic Wakeman synth.

I thought this album was called "tomato" for the longest time. i saw the title and the red splats on the cover. "tomato," my brain said. tomato.

"Don't Kill the Whale" is a stellar track, and a couple of others stand out, but the rest is embarrassing. No doubt they intended whimsical wonder, but it has all the grandeur of a 7-11 nacho cheese enema.

I think this one is supremely underrated! Sure, it's not Fragile, but there are some really good songs here ("Don't Kill the Whale," "Onward," "Release Release," "Madrigal," and a couple of others). That said the production and mixing leaves a lot to be desired, sounding pretty dated at times. The effects on the bass and some of the sounds from the keyboard are pretty cheesy, but this is MUCH better than its reputation would have you believe. If you want to listen to a piece of shit, put Union on.

Some great songs on this one, but the production almost ruins it. Even on the remastered version of the album it sounds pretty dull. Arriving UFO is just plain irritating. There are a few Yes classics though, such as "Onward", "On the Silent Wings of Freedom" and "Don't Kill the Whale". Love the guitar and bass work, but Wakeman's uneven keyboard playing almost ruins it.

I believe some good songs from this album were killed by mediocre mixing, Release Release for example

Completely agree about this being a underrated gem in their collection. Madrigal is 1000 out of 10 for me. And though Wakeman's keys in this one may annoy some, I personally found it rather charming and think it really works terrifically with these songs.

Underated. Anderson gets a bit twee with the UFOs and mythical candy floss, but he's always been an affable space-cadet lyrically. There's a specific keyboard Wakeman was noodling with throughout - the birotron or some such - that get's a bit samey. But the songs are great. Squire is not to be missed in On The Silent Wings Of Freedom.

Can't see why so many peopl slam this album, with the exception of Arriving UFO (where the hell did that one come from guys) This album is brilliant, and Wakeman was never better, or more prominant on the album. Sure on the other Wakeman Yes albums, you can hear him here and there and he has a few face melting keyboard solos but on this one his keyboard passages really are brought to the forefront and gel together many of the peices. Brilliant especially Release, Release.

It's not awful, just not nearly as good as their earlier (or later) stuff. Drama, 90125 and Big Gen were also better. That doesn't mean it's underrated. It's probably on a par with Talk.

maybe you can think is underrated and very good, until you listen Close to the Edge

Agree with CircusOfHeaven, one of my favourite Yes albums. Future Times/Rejoice is pure art.
