Biography
Hailing from Lima, Peruvian artist Benja Novier started creating music through his alter ego zpectrum in 2012. The name references the ghostly world he creates through the use of tribal rhythms and phantasmal atmosphere. After years of experimentation, channeling influences from his country's music along with other Latin and African cultures, zpectrum blurs the line between modern electronic genres to create heavy bass-driven dance music. His music blends elements from reguetón to riddim, cumbia to drum n bass, and house to festejo as well as many other different roots and beat incarnations.
In 2017, with 3 new releases, zpectrum oscillated between genres and demonstrated versatility with his cosmic electro-ethnic El Edén and the retro synthwave-inspired Barranco 3:33AM (named for the bohemian Lima district the music video takes place in). Meanwhile, Demons showcased zpectrum's deeper side evoking feelings of surrounding nostalgia in its dreamy soundscape.
After relocating to Buenos Aires and releasing Qema in 2018, unleashing a fiery mix of cumbia, reguetón and bass house elements, zpectrum is currently working on expanding his world sound with more ethnic textures and colors for a debut album release.
