"Still" is the fifth track from black midi's third studio album "Hellfire".
The narrator’s partner has moved on, but the narrator thinks their relationship was just getting started – much like a ship that sinks before it can ever make it to open water. The singer imagining what his life could have been, post-breakup; he could have grown old and bald with his partner, had a child together, or perhaps moved to the United States. As another user stated, the “bald eagle baby” line could also refer to a sense of needing to be cared for.
The narrator highlights their desperation for some love, wanting the ex to return and reciprocate what is now unrequited. This situation has put stress on Cam/the narrator and now he’s overthinking and thinking thoughts he normally wouldn’t, and he goes as far as to beg for the other person to stay up to talk to him for some security.
Time has passed, the narrator sees his ex with the knowledge that their relationship cannot be rekindled, he’s just “visiting.” His ex is now emotionally distant, as they are no longer entwined in each other’s lives; but the narrator can tell his ex is doing well regardless.
