PRESS RELEASE: NEW ALBUM FROM ELIJAH EMANUEL - "TRES SANGRES"
September 29, 2008

BILINGUAL REGGAE ARTIST, ELIJAH EMANUEL, RELEASES THIRD ALBUM

San Diego, CA 2008: ELIJAH EMANUEL, PANAMANIAN SINGER/SONGWRITER, OFFERS A MULTI-CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE ON ROOTS REGGAE WITH HIS NEW ENGLISH/SPANISH ALBUM, ENTITLED "TRES SANGRES" (Three Bloods). The site for this CD release is The Belly-Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA on Friday Oct. 10, 2008, 9:00 pm.

When he began performing in San Diego in 1997, Elijah Emanuel was arguably the first artist to write and sing reggae songs in Spanish and English. His first album, "La Lucha Continua" (The Struggle Continues), released in 2001, launched the bilingual approach to reggae and gained him a loyal following in California and Mexico, particularly in Mexico City and Tijuana. The second, 2004's "Persistence of Vison" (Vision Persistente), continued this new tradition in roots reggae music and established him as a unique act in the USA, both on the west coast and in New York.

"Tres Sangres" seeks to extend the significance of bi-lingualism in reggae music. Not satisfied to merely cross the language barrier, Elijah Emanuel explores the multi-cultural experience of Latinos: that of mixed blood. The songs illuminate the joys and sorrows of living the mixed heritage of African, Indigenous and European ancestry. Musical arrangements reflect this cultural mix: adding African polyrhythms, Native American chants, Cuban tres, funky jazz horns and cello.
