There are at least 2 artists under the name Necrolatry.
1. Death metal band from Tromsø, Norway, formed in 2007.
2. Death metal band from Hamtramck, Micihgan, United States, formed in 1990.
Necrolatry is everything you’ve liked about metal, with a breath of fresh air in the form of unexpected riffs and drum parts that would set the band apart from many others under the death metal category. As "Metal-Norge" once wrote, "Necrolatry comes into their own sub-genre of metal, they’re easy to like, but no one can accuse them of writing commercially acceptable or sappy songs". As in the song "Abducted By Death", the band goes from total deathgrind feeling to melodic breakdowns that sets the music apart from the rest and makes it interesting.
The band started in early 2007 with only three members. In 2007 we started for the first time with a full lineup and played many concerts. Because people have been leaving and returning due to Norway’s required 1 year service in the armed forces, it made keeping the band together difficult, and so it shall remain for a few more years, as some of our members still haven’t finished their service to the country. The music is inspired by metal generally, but we listen to a lot of different genres, and the songs are changing along with our sense of music. It’s difficult to list bands we’re inspired by, because each member listens to different bands, but that’s what makes it so great because of the different ideas people bring up.
The beginning of 2008 saw some changes in the band. As an earlier member, Al, returned after he was done with his Army service, and rhythm guitarist Daniel had to leave to do his. Replaced by Thomas, the band started once again to practice and make songs in hopes of playing concerts once again.
The rest of 2008 will bring both good and bad things. As our drummer Eirik and possibly Tage are going in Army this summer. The summer of 2008 also sees the return of the founding member Birger, and with it the band is changing direction to a darker approach with a lower tuning on the instruments and heavier songs (without losing the progression and the melodic fills the band has started to become known for, but rather expanding it all and taking it to another level).
Whatever the future brings, the band is motivated and shall not split up completely. We feel it’s important to try and spearhead the death metal movement in Tromsø and northern Norway, to expand the fan base, tour with other metal bands, and bring the music to as many people as possible. That is our goal.
