Biography

Riverdistrict was an alternative pop band from Utrecht, The Netherlands that released music and performed all around the country from 2010 until early 2016. Tim Nolet recorded his first album Portrait of Portraits at home in 2010 and made it available online for free on www.riverdistrictmusic.com. Tim upgraded Riverdistrict to a full band in 2011 and they played the nation-wide band festival Popronde the same year. Other highlights include the Canvas Holes EP release in 2012, the Heartbreakers single winning Utrecht song of the year 2014, the video for I Guess You Love the Underground and appearances on national radio and television. The first full band album Kansas Anymore was released in October 2015 at EKKO in their hometown. The band posted a public statement announcing their end in February 2016.

After having written, recorded and released the Portrait of Portraits (2010) album as a solo operation, in February 2011 Tim Nolet published a call for band members in order to be able to perform his music in a live setting. Bass player Timo Klok, guitarist Nils Breunese and guitar/synth player Jörgen Apperloo joined Tim to form a band and prepare for their first gigs in the summer of 2011. Sebastiaan Janssen joined the band on drums in the fall of 2011. That year Riverdistrict played the Lil'Hill and In Vervoering festivals and was selected to join the 2011 edition of the Popronde, a tour of Dutch bands all around the country.

Recording for the first full band EP started in 2012 and the 5-track Canvas Holes EP was released on November 1. The band played the second edition of the Woot! Woot! Woolf festival and opened for Ewert and the Two Dragons in EKKO. At the end of 2012 Sebastiaan Janssen left the band and Gijs van Wiechen took over the drum set

Jörgen Apperloo left the band in January 2013 and the band continued as a 4-piece, replacing some keyboard parts with bassist Timo Klok playing them on an analog Moog synth using a foot controller and others were performed (manually) by guitarist Nils Breunese.

The band headed out to WedgeView Studios to record a full-length album in 2014. In April of that year Heartbreakers (7" single) was released on vinyl, accompanied by a music video. The song Heartbreakers was chosen as Song of the Year 2014 by local music platform 3voor12/Utrecht.

On March 30, 2015 a re-mix of I Guess You Love the Underground was released digitally with an accompanying video on YouTube.
