Sara Hjellström, known professionally as Shy Martin (stylized as shy martin), is a Swedish singer and songwriter. Born on November 5, 1993, she was raised in the small town of Lerdala, Sweden. Shy Martin discovered her passion for writing songs and poetry at a young age as a form of self-expression. At 17, she won a music contest at her school and subsequently signed with EMI. However, she later opted for independence and enrolled at the songwriting school Musikmakarna in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. Following her studies, she relocated to Stockholm and signed with the independent label BLNK Music. However, as of November 2020, she is no longer associated with BLNK.

Shy Martin first gained recognition as a songwriter with her co-write and featured vocal on Mike Perry's "The Ocean (ft. SHY Martin)." This track, recorded in one take in her wardrobe, became a massive success, receiving over 550 million streams and winning Spotify Sweden's 'Most Streamed Song of the Year' award. Shy Martin has since collaborated with notable artists such as The Chainsmokers, NOTD, Jess Glynne, and Kygo, contributing to hits like "All We Know" and "First Time."

In 2017, Shy Martin embarked on her own solo career with the release of "Good Together." Subsequent singles received acclaim from Billboard and other publications, culminating in the 2018 EP "Overthinking." In 2020, she released the single "can I call you back?" followed by the successful Sad Songs EP.

Beyond her artistry, Shy Martin is involved in various music industry initiatives focused on gender equality and empowering female artists. She is a member of Spotify CEO/Founder Daniel Ek and producer Max Martin's 'Equalizer Project' and participated in Bebe Rexha's 'Women In Harmony' Dinner in 2018. Shy Martin has also been recognized for her songwriting achievements, receiving the Stikkan Anderson award in 2018.

In October 2022, Shy Martin released the single "wish I didn't know you," which received positive reception from the press. Her subsequent release, the title track from her debut album "late night thoughts," was described as her boldest and most emotionally open work to date. The album was released in May 2023.
