did “good song” and/or “out of time” go viral somewhere? they each have WAY more unique listeners than “crazy beat,” which is surprising

yes, all three were singles, and “out of time” did chart a lot higher in britain…and “crazy beat” definitely aged the hardest. but it was still the single that got the biggest push by far, and in america it was the only one that got any serious rotation on TV and rock radio. it also just feels like the album’s conceptual centerpiece, for better or worse

weird story behind how this one came about...albarn didn't want to do another blur album (at least at the time) because he was so fixated on gorillaz...coxon convinced him, albeit reluctantly...albarn tries to make it poppier, basically because he feels like he understands what the american market wants after gorillaz worked...coxon feels alienated, leaves...and then albarn, despite not even wanting to be there either, stubbornly wills it to completion

can anyone else think of another album made that way? member A cajoles member B into making an album they don't wanna make, then member B's direction alienates member A until they decide to quit, then member B finishes it anyway?

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "American Dream" more or less has the same story; Neil Young started making the album with his old band as a promise to David Crosby for successfully entering rehab and getting clean, they even recorded it in his house, but halfway through everybody gave up and Young sort of finished it reluctantly.

whoa! good one. not quite the same – the same guy starts and finishes the project, in that case – but definitely a peer in the canon of “reluctant albums” writ large

I bought this CD when it came out in 2003. And I only just today, 18 years later, discovered the hidden track, "Me, White Noise". It's been there the whole time, and I never knew. Certainly my CD-ripping software didn't. That's a hell of a well-hidden Easter egg. Thank you, Exact Audio Copy! Now it's a regular mp3 in my regular rotation.

Remove "Crazy Beat," "We've Got a File on You" and "Gene By Gene" and you have one of the best albums of all time.

this is not a bad album. I don't know why everyone says is crap (well, probably because graham wasn't in blur) I think is amazing, different to the others albums, yes. But that doesn't mean it's bad.

Прекрасно, восхительно, но воспринимаю этот альбом как альбом Gorillaz, нежели как Blur.

Don't really get why people are saying the critics didn't like this. It got strong reviews at the time, and was in several 'Best Of The 2000s' lists at the end of the decade. Fantastic album.

Considering how good it turned out, I wonder how much better/different it would've been if Graham was actually on board for it.

Despite Graham Coxon being absent from a majority of this album, I love it. And yes, some of it is very reminiscent of Gorillaz, which may be part of the reason I enjoy it so much. {2) !!!!!!
